Unit 1, the online world,d is the first exam-based unit that we accessed. This unit covers the internet and the different things we use it for in our daily lives. Unit 1 is also quite special since it is the unit that is required (enforced) for all students to do.

In this unit,we learnt many different topics and things that are important in the everyday online world. Listed below are some key topics that we covered.

How do websites work?

How do emails reach your computer?

How does the use of computer applications affect your daily life?

These are some of the topics that we were given at the start of the year.

The ideas of unit 1 are based on a context of introduction to the modern online world. In Unit 1, we learnt about a range of services including email, online data storage, collaborative software, search engines and blogging. This extends our knowledge of online services with the technology and software that support them. Overall, in the unit we learn Online systems and technology that have become part of everyday work, so being able to learn, understand and work with this technology is relevant in many roles in the modern industry.

LO. A - Investigate online services and online communication. In this part of the unit, we looked at different online services like advertising and social media/Instant messaging. from this we learnt how online applications we use daily affect our daily lives overall

LO.B - Investigate components of the internet and how digital devices exchange and store information. In this part of the unit, we learnt how the internet was formed and how it is all run together.

In this part of the unit, we investigated how the internet was created from the beginning how the internet runs, and the infrastructure in the background that runs and ties it all together. LO.B has made us learn many new things about the internet and its infrastructure

LO.C - Investigate issues with operating online. This is the final part of the topic before the first major Exam. In This part of the topic we learnt about the different issues across the online world and how we solve them.
